Abstract: (36 Views) |
Contrary to the belief of those who consider religious obedience as a hurdle to free thinking, it can be argued that there is a synergy between the two and as a result children can learn to think freely while remaining obedient to the religious instruction. Emphasizing this synergy, the authors have concluded that the reasoning in religious obedience, obedience not being unique to religion, the existence of irrational affairs and the necessity of doing them, the difference between belief and obedience on the one hand and between common sense and rational wisdom on the other, all in all are indicative of rationality governing religious obedience. Since rationality is the basis of thinking, and thinking is a religious duty in Islam, there is no contradiction between obedience and freedom of thought.
