Given the importance of the communicative role played by language in classroom between teachers and students, on the one hand, and the duality of languages of school and home, on the other, it was deemed necessary to explore the semantic representation of school experiences as lived by Baluch students who experience the said duality. To this end, a group of 18 elementary school students in Saravan was selected and interviewed to the point of data saturation. Assuming the validity and reliability of the instrument used, the participants’ responses were content analyzed and four major organizational themes were identified by which school is considered: as a place to learn, as a place to love, as a place to socialize, and as a place to develop. Each of these has one to three subthemes, totaling to eight which cover all aspects of school life. The results show that school is a special place for Baluch students as it can help them respect their culture and confront social and educational injustice. |
