Assuming that Social Studies (SS) should help the development of Moral Intelligence(MI), the question that would arise is weather the Elementary School (ES) textbooks in this area do cover the topic from Borba’s perspective in which MI is considered to have seven constituents, and to what extent. To provide an answer to this question all SS textbooks at this level were content analyzed in terms of indicators of those seven constituents and their subdomains as identified and confirmed by experts. The results show that a total of 741 indicators were identified, most of which were those indicating kindness, while the least number was that of fairness. Right next to kindness, respect is well covered, while empathy is close to fairness. Other constituents rank in the middle and as such show an uneven approach to MI’s constituents. Furthermore, the coverage of these constituents lacks continuity and order across grades. |
