Design thinking, as the way that designers think, refers to a type of learner-centered problem solving and creative approach to complex educational problems. This way of thinking is assumed to help with the expansion of educational innovation and creativity. As such, students of educational design need to be taught such skills in order to be able to do what they would be expected to do, i.e. designing teaching models. To design a teaching model in design thinking, a set of 21 research reports, from among 216 such reports, was selected and content analyzed. The papers were all published during the period of 1980-2021. Benefitting from principles of social constructivism as well as the identified constituents of design thinking, a model for teaching design thinking was drawn and validated. It is expected that the use of this model would help educational technologists improve their performance.
