Based on Islamic teachings derived from the holy book and other revered texts, and a set of principles related to the content of any devised course, the curriculum for the course titled “Introduction to Islamic Sources” was reviewed and its shortcomings identified in order to pave the way for the introduction of desired content. It was discovered that the current curriculum lacks independent topics, and does not give a pivotal role to religious writings, while including forced content and topics covered in other curricula. Additionally, it was found to be lacking in paying attention to correct recitation of verses of Quran. Therefore, it is suggested that the course be re-designed to include the following general topics and specific lessons: Overview of Islamic texts, Quran-derived texts, and texts attributed to the prophet and his next of kin. Following each specific lesson steps are to be taken in order to assure the understanding of the text, and ways of translating it into behavior. |
