A Mixed Approach to the Development of a Model for Schools’ Sport Programs

To develop a model for the expansion of schools’ sport programs, the views of a group of 17 experts on the subject were sought through extensive and semi-structured interviews. The analyses of these data lead to the identification of three main themes: factors affecting schools’ sport programs, strategies for the expansion of such programs, and the consequences of such expansions. In the light of the discovered themes, a questionnaire with an adequate validity and reliability, was constructed and then given to a group of 387 experts and physical education teachers in Tehran. The data collected through the questionnaire were used to construct a structural model wherein all the components were of adequate goodness of fit. It can be concluded that the expansion of sport programs in schools requires a multilateral and systemic look in order to utilize the appropriate strategies for the expansion of sports programs, given the expected outcomes. |
