To identify the indices of competency for student-teachers in Physical Education and factors that influence them, 22 expert were interviewed and 324 student-teachers from all over the country were given a questionnaire. Data analyses revealed that competency has four sets of indices in the areas of subjective-educational, educational, subjective, and general. Factors affecting these competencies include familiarity with information technology, availability of facilities, teachers’ characteristics, environmental possibilities, and administrative support. These factors are shown to have a significant positive effect on the competency of student-teachers in Physical Education. Given the findings, it can be said that if the identified factors were provided for and supported, then the competency of the student-teachers would improve. |
