Based on the theories of social cognition and self-determination, it is hypothesized that students’ pro-social behaviors are related to their parents’ child rearing style and their family’s SES depending on parental involvement in their children’s schooling. To test this hypothesis, a cluster sample of 492 high school students was selected and given four questionnaires on the above-mentioned constructs. The validity and internal consistency of the instruments were confirmed. Data analysis revealed that pro-social behavior is significantly related to the other three constructs. Thus, it can be concluded that factors such as occupation, level of education, income, and child rearing styles are related to parents’ school involvement and students’ pro-social behaviors. |
