Based on the theory of Relative Deprivation, children who feel relatively deprived have lower expectations from their parents. To discover what factors affect the parents-related expectations of adolescents in South Khorasan Province, a cluster sample of 580 students, aged 13-18 years, was given a questionnaire of assumed validity and reliability on deprivation and expectation. Data analyses revealed that mean scores on generational gap, peer group, and sensing relative deprivation are higher than other factors, i.e. parental control over children, media usage, parental life style, and children’s consumerism. While the mean score for expectation was 59.1, it showed a positive and significant correlation with generational gap, children’s consumerism, parental life style, peer group, and media usage. The correlation between expectation and relative deprivation and parental control of children was significantly negative. |
