In order to identify the professional competencies as referred to in a selected set of 30 top Islamic writings, written over a period of one thousand years, their content was analyzed and a total of 2448 indicators were derived and then classified into 4 areas, 15 main categories, and 91 indices of competency. The four areas cover teaching manners in relation to the knowledge network, the instructional framework, the students’ interactions, and personal development. This set of areas, categories, and indices can be looked upon as a comprehensive model for teacher training programs within the value system of Islam and also as an original and practical guide for teachers who want to be both knowledge and effective agents. |
