Educational Implications of Paulo Freire’s Thoughts on Intercultural Dialogue

To help with the development and improvement of the country’s educational system, the critical thoughts of Paulo Freire were scrutinized for any educational implication of intercultural dialogue. Analyses of philosophical foundations of his thoughts on the status of intercultural dialogue indicate that Freire emphasizes the educational implications of dialogue. Among such implications are educational principles such as critical self-awareness, freedom of thought, humble interactions, and mutual cultural understanding. Freire thinks of dialogue as means of breaking the silence of marginal and oppressed cultures and bringing about citizens who are free , active, and future oriented wanting to improve their lot through intercultural dialogue. Teaching methods emphasizing discourse and discussion, as well as development of horizontal and mutual relationships between students and teachers are considered as ways of improving both dialogue and problem solving skills.
