Optimal positioning of schools is of much interest to planners because the rapid increase in population and structural changes within the cities could lead to distribution problems if not foreseen and dealt with. To see the extent to which the middle schools in Dehdasht are positioned well enough to meet the needs of residents, a composite model was created using both geo-demographical information and the Fuzzy model of decision making. Based on this model most appropriate, appropriate, and least appropriate locations were identified and mapped. Using good estimates of future student populations, now the most appropriate location for schools can be determined.

Keywords: educational positioning, geographical information system, Fuzzy model, city of Dehdasht
